JPIAMR celebrating 10 years

JPIAMR celebrating 10 years of achievements

It is with great pleasure that we acknowledge that JPIAMR officially celebrates ten years as an international collaborative platform. From its inception in December 2011 until today, JPIAMR has achieved and exceeded its mission to coordinate national funding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) research, guided by a shared strategic research and innovation agenda. Today 28 countries fund AMR research with a One Health approach, as members of JPIAMR. More than 1 400 researchers in 71 countries have been engaged in research that has been funded by JPIAMR members. In total, 125 million Euros have been allocated to research and networking which has achieved outstanding results and impacts. This highlights the role of JPIAMR as a key initiative helping to understand and curb AMR on a global scale.

JPIAMR is leading the development of the One Health AMR Partnership within the Horizon Europe Framework Programme. We look forward to working together with members to seek and support solutions to curb AMR.

“It is impressive to see what JPIAMR members have made possible during these ten years. The results from funded research are astonishing and important, showing that the JPIAMR model works. JPIAMR is well suited to lead the development of the One Health AMR Partnership. We can only imagine what will be achieved in the ten years to come. I am joining all of the members and the AMR research community in wishing JPIAMR a Happy Birthday!” – Jan-Ingvar Jönsson, JPIAMR Chair

Call picture

Pre-announcement: Research call on drug resistance

We are pleased to pre-announce the transnational project call Disrupting drug resistance using innovative design under the umbrella of the JPIAMR. The call will involve 26 funding organisations from 17 countries and the total estimated call budget is about 17 million Euro.

This call aims to improve the treatment of bacterial and fungal infections (including co-infection) and/or the prevention of the emergence/spread of resistance in humans, animals or plants through the improvement of the efficacy, specificity, delivery, combinations and/or repurposing of drugs and plant protection agents.

The call opens on 11 January 2022.

Diagnostics and Surveillance Networks call image

Pre-announcement: Diagnostics and surveillance network call

JPIAMR is launching the call Diagnostics and Surveillance Networks in April 2022 with the aim to assemble networks of leading experts and stakeholders with an intent to facilitate the development, optimisation and use of diagnostic and surveillance tools, technologies and systems.

Eleven (11) JPIAMR-ACTION members are participating in this network call to date. Each network coordinator will be able to apply for a maximum of 50,000 Euro for 12 or 24 months period for support of its activities.

JPIAMR awards new projects in the area of transmission and interventions

Nineteen projects involving 114 partners from 35 different countries have been recommended for funding within the JPIAMR 13th transnational call One Health interventions to prevent or reduce the development and transmission of antimicrobial resistance. The total funding amount is 25,6 M€.

The call, launched in January 2021, was within the framework of the ERA-NET JPIAMR-ACTION and supported by 30 research funding organisations from 21 countries and by the European Commission. Using a One Health approach, the call aimed to understand the impact of interventions on the development and transmission of antibiotic resistance and to design, implement, evaluate, and compare interventions reducing the development and transmission of antibiotic resistance. Applicants were encouraged to consider the use of interventions that may have an impact in areas where the risk and burden of AMR is greatest, such as in Low and Middle Income countries.

The projects recommended for funding are:

Work with us!

The JPIAMR Secretariat is looking for a senior research officer with a background in medicine and health. With us, you get to work with committed colleagues in an international context to strengthen research and research collaboration on antimicrobial resistance. You will be employed by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet), based in central Stockholm, and also take part in the work on the Swedish national research programme on antibiotic resistance.

Senior research officer focusing on antimicrobial resistance

Stockholm

Ref 2.2.1-2021-06611

Antimicrobial resistance is a global problem that impacts on us all. Resistance in bacteria leads to infections that are difficult to treat, and means that complicated medical interventions can not longer be carried out without functioning antibiotics. It is difficult to develop new antibiotics, and we are also at risk of bacteria quickly developing resistance to them through careless and incorrect use. To increase the impact of research, Sweden established a national research programme on antibiotic resistance in 2016, and has since 2011 been one of the driving countries within the global research collaboration Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance (JPIAMR). Today, JPIAMR involved around thirty countries across the world, and is also receiving strong support from the European Commission. The Swedish Research Council is coordinating the collaboration, and is responsible for the joint JPIAMR Secretariat.

Role and job description

We are offering a role as senior research officer within the field of medicine and health, where you together with knowledgeable and committed colleagues are part of the secretariat that the Swedish Research Council provides for the international collaboration Joint Programming Initiative Antimicrobial resistance (JPIAMR, www.jpiamr.eu). Public Report: Antimicrobial Resistance Survey

A rapport is now available on the survey about collections of biological material, databases and services relevant for AMR research that was performed earlier this year by ZonMw, on behalf of JPIAMR and VALUE-Dx.

ZonMw (the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development) performed, on behalf of JPIAMR and the recently started consortium VALUE-Dx, a survey on resources (collections of biological material and databases) that are relevant for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) research. In parallel information was collected about services that are provided by research infrastructures and some biobanks.

It is with pleasure that we now share the public report on the survey set out to create an overview of resources and services related to antimicrobial resistance research. Read report.

The results are also presented in a series of dashboard that can be used by the entire AMR research community. Read more.

Another survey will be set out to collect more detailed information about individual resources and services, and to address issues related to their findability, reuse, sustainability, and quality. For the next survey we strive to use a machine-readable metadata scheme, ensuring that the input is documented according to a standardised & community-agreed description, is interoperable, and remains up-to-date!

New Dashboard on AMR Resources and Services

JPIAMR is launching interactive dashboards to provide an overview of AMR specific collections of biological materials, databases and research infrastructure services.

JPIAMR, in collaboration with the IMI-consortium VALUE-Dx, has collected information through a survey on existing resources and services that are relevant for AMR research from all the One Health domains: human, animal and environment. JPIAMR has now translated this overview into interactive dashboards. This will contribute to improving findability, reusability and sustainability of resources and services for the AMR research community.

GARDP is organising a live webinar on October 8th: Exploring safety issues in antimicrobial drug development.

This webinar was developed in collaboration with CARB-X, JPIAMR, REPAIR Impact Fund, Wellcome Trust, ASM and ESCMID. It is part of the ‘Antibiotic Bootcamps for Developers’ series which have been developed by GARDP and its partners at the ‘ASM/ESCMID Conference on Drug Development to Meet the Challenge of Antimicrobial Resistance’ since 2017. As this years’ conference could not be held, the content was developed under the umbrella of the REVIVE webinar series.
