We are pleased to pre-announce the transnational project call Disrupting drug resistance using innovative design under the umbrella of the JPIAMR. The call will involve 26 funding organisations from 17 countries and the total estimated call budget is about 17 million Euro.

This call aims to improve the treatment of bacterial and fungal infections (including co-infection) and/or the prevention of the emergence/spread of resistance in humans, animals or plants through the improvement of the efficacy, specificity, delivery, combinations and/or repurposing of drugs and plant protection agents.

The call opens on 11 January 2022.

JPIAMR is launching the call Diagnostics and Surveillance Networks in April 2022 with the aim to assemble networks of leading experts and stakeholders with an intent to facilitate the development, optimisation and use of diagnostic and surveillance tools, technologies and systems.

Eleven (11) JPIAMR-ACTION members are participating in this network call to date. Each network coordinator will be able to apply for a maximum of 50,000 Euro for 12 or 24 months period for support of its activities.

Nineteen projects involving 114 partners from 35 different countries have been recommended for funding within the JPIAMR 13th transnational call One Health interventions to prevent or reduce the development and transmission of antimicrobial resistance. The total funding amount is 25,6 M€.

The call, launched in January 2021, was within the framework of the ERA-NET JPIAMR-ACTION and supported by 30 research funding organisations from 21 countries and by the European Commission. Using a One Health approach, the call aimed to understand the impact of interventions on the development and transmission of antibiotic resistance and to design, implement, evaluate, and compare interventions reducing the development and transmission of antibiotic resistance. Applicants were encouraged to consider the use of interventions that may have an impact in areas where the risk and burden of AMR is greatest, such as in Low and Middle Income countries.

New website for JPIAMR

Welcome to our new website!

The new JPIAMR website has been launched! It has a new design and new structure with the aim to improve user accessibility.

The site’s content is now partly re-structured and we have created clear entries on the start page to the most sought after content. All research calls have their own pages with links to the projects and networks awarded funding within each call. The Projcets section contains a possibility to filter projects by call or by JPIAMR Priority topic. Upcoming JPIAMR events such as workshops and webinars are now clearly visible on the start page, and below this you will find entries to some of our recources such as our AMR KNowledge Hub and our media library.

Transmission interventions call

JPIAMR is launching an international call for projects under the umbrella of the JPIAMR and within the framework of the ERA-NET JPIAMR-ACTION.

The call “One Health interventions to prevent or reduce the development and transmission of AMR”, with financial support from the European Commission, includes 30 funding organisations from 21 JPIAMR member countries. The total estimated call budget is 24.9 million Euro.

The call advocates for a One Health approach to understand the impact of interventions on the development and transmission of antibiotic resistance and to design, implement, evaluate, and compare interventions that will have a true impact on preventing or reducing the development and transmission of antibiotic resistance in and between the different One Health settings (human, animal, environment).

The call will support research projects that also have the potential for impact in areas where the risk and burden of AMR is greatest, such as in Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Pre-announcement: One Health interventions to prevent or reduce the development and transmission of AMR

Early 2021 an international call for projects will be launched under the umbrella of the JPIAMR and within the framework of the ERA-NET JPIAMR-ACTION. The call, that will receive financial support from the European Commission, will include 30 funding organisations from 21 JPIAMR member countries. Proposals will be evaluated in a two-step procedure (pre-proposals/full proposals). The call will be launched on January 14th, 2021 and applicants will have up to March 16th, 2021, 12:00 (CET) to submit their pre-proposals.

A match-making partner search tool has been created for applicants, to facilitate networking and the creation of consortia.

Seven networks have been recommended for funding within the JPIAMR 10th transnational call: “JPIAMR Network Plus 2020”.

Seven networks including 146 partners from 35 countries have been recommended for funding within the JPIAMR 10th transnational call: “JPIAMR Network Plus 2020”. The total funding amount is approx. 737.000 €.

The call was launched in February 2020 and supported by research-funding organisations from eight JPIAMR member countries.

The intent of the call was to support networks to design and implement ways to support AMR research considering at least one of the six strategic areas of the JPIAMR Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA): Therapeutics, Diagnostics, Surveillance, Transmission, Environment and Interventions. Networks should develop and implement activities focusing on AMR within the domains of Human health, Animal health and the Environment. The Networks were encouraged to bridge multiple One Health areas as needed and to consider the incorporation of their activities within the JPIAMR-Virtual Research Institute (JPIAMR-VRI).

Networks working on AMR in the context of viral-bacterial co-infections, including those working with Covid-19, are eligible to apply for the call.

The intent of the call “JPIAMR Network Plus 2020” is to support networks to design and implement ways to support AMR research considering at least one of the six strategic areas of the JPIAMR Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda: Therapeutics, Diagnostics, Surveillance, Transmission, Environment and Interventions. Networks should develop and implement activities focusing on AMR within the domains of Human health, Animal health and the Environment. Networks working on AMR in the context of viral-bacterial co-infections, including those working with Covid-19, are eligible to apply for the call.

The tenth JPIAMR joint call for transnational networks is in partnership with seven JPIAMR member countries; Canada, France, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Spain, and Sweden. The deadline for submission of applications is May 28th, 17.00 CET. Read more here.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become one of the major global health and development challenges of the 21st century. The threat of AMR is particularly high in resource-limited and high-risk settings. This is linked to weak human and animal health systems; diverse means of food production, processing and consumption; food safety and food security; water, hygiene and sanitation challenges; and the global movement of people and goods.

In response to these challenges, the JPIAMR will launch a joint transnational call for proposals for innovative research projects on new or improved diagnostics and surveillance strategies, tools, technologies and methods. These research projects should address diagnosis of AMR infections in clinical and veterinary settings, or the emergence, surveillance, and/or detection of AMR in humans, animals and the environment. This Call will support research projects that also have the potential for impact in areas where the risk and burden of AMR is greatest, e.g. in LMIC settings in Asia and Africa. Projects are encouraged to use a One Health approach where relevant. The projected call budget is approx. 20 million Euro.

Scope of the call

Projects should aim to either:

  1. Develop strategies, tools, technologies, and methods for the detection, monitoring, profiling and/or surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and dynamics leading to resistance.
  2. Study ways to facilitate and implement the uptake and use of existing strategies, tools, technologies, and/or methods for the detection, monitoring, profiling and surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and dynamics leading to resistance.
Eligibility

List of participating countries is provisional.
Consortia of eligible scientists from participating JPIAMR member countries and eligible countries in Africa and Asia may apply to this call. Full eligibility criteria will be included in the Call launch. Participating JPIAMR member countries include Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain and  Sweden. Consortia must include a minimum of three and a maximum of six project partners from at least three eligible countries.

The Netherlands has the intention of joining the call but no funding is guaranteed yet. Updates on the progress will be shared.

Expected timeline
  • November 2018 – Pre-announcement of the call
  • December 2018 – Publication of the call
  • February 2019 – Submission deadline for pre-proposal
  • April 2019 – Full proposal invitations sent to project coordinators
  • June 2019 – Submission deadline for full proposals
  • October/November – Final funding decision announced
  • December 2019/ Early 2020 – Project start
